Excel formula question

Is it possible to add numbers in one column that match a text label in another column?? Meaning if I have numbers listed for each line item in one column and then group lines into categories, can you total each category with a formula?? Right now I am filtering and then manually listing each cell into a simple sum formula. I am looking for a way to make this automatic so if the category changes for a line it would automatically be grouped with the newly assigned group. Welcome to the board

You can do it with a formula, check the help for SUMIF().

Another way is to use a Pivot Table. This way, without formulas, you get a report with the total for each category.
