# Excel Formula

Hello - I'm having a hard time figuring out the Excel formula for the scenario below:

Known:
a = \$140,000
b = 10%
c = \$154,000

Formula: =a+(a*b) = c
\$140,000+(\$140,000*10%) = \$154,000

Scenario: I want to produce the same outcome (\$154,000) with adjusted variables. If I drop the value of b to 5%, what is the formula to calculate the adjusted value of a?
a = unknown
b = 5%
c = \$154,000

a+(a*5%) = \$154,000 *Obviously this is not the formula, I'm just trying to illustrate what I need help figuring out - which is the value of "a"

### Excel Facts

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.

Your formula could be changed to:
a*(1+percent)=c
\$140,000*1.10=\$154,000
so
a = unknown
b = 5%
c = \$154,000

a= \$154,000/1.05
Book1
ABC
1\$ 140,000.001.1\$ 154,000.00
2\$ 146,666.671.05\$ 154,000.00
Sheet1
Cell Formulas
RangeFormula
B1B1=1+0.1
C1C1=A1*B1
A2A2=C2/B2

a =c/(1+b)

Thank you SO much! I really appreciate you helping me and also not making me feel embarrassed. I can't believe how simple that was!
