Hi i would like some help with a formula basically if a cell let's say A9 has a value i want the cell to take the value in another cell away (D9)

the cell in question is J9 and includes the current formula =MAX((D9-E9+F9-G9+H9-I176),0)

I think you mean this:

=IF(A9<>"",D9,MAX((D9-E9+F9-G9+H9-I176),0))

Not quite i want J9 to subtract D9 IF A9 has a value lets say J9 = 100 D9 =20 & F9 =80

IF A9 has a value then do not include D9 (£20) therefore overall value in J9 would = £80

hope this makes sense.

No, sorry - not getting it. Please provide some sample data in tabular format showing what is in each of these cells that are referenced in your formula.

i just did:

J9 to subtract D9 IF A9 has a value lets say J9 = 100 (D9+F9) D9 =20 & F9 =80 therefore J9 = £100

IF A9 has a value in its cell then do not include D9 (£20) therefore overall value in J9 would = £80 (F9 Only)
