Hey,

I have an excel workbook with 6 columns of data. The first column is names the second is date of access.
The names occur numerous times throughout the workbook. I want to get a count per month of how many times each person has logged in.

Excel Facts

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
Create a Pivot Table:
Click any cell in your table of data.
Click the Data menu, then choose Pivot Table...
Follow the wizard to complete the Pivot Table.

Welcome to the Board Tim!

John's Pivot Table suggestion is a great idea. Depending on your layout/structure, you might also want to check the helpfile for COUNTIF.

And feel free to post a shot of your sheet (there's a sticky on the main Excel forum page that'll show you how to do that).

HTH,

Hey all,

Thank for the advice. I seem to have worked it out using subtotals and going from there. The countif also helped.
