Hi

I want to install Excel 2003, 2007 and 2010 (Word 2003 & 2010 and Access 2003 & 2010) on my PC. I want Excel 2003 to be the default version when I click on .xls and .xlt files and Excel 2010 when I click on the new format Excel files. Trial and error shows me that the installation order is part of the key. I can get Excel 2003 to be the default for .XLS and .XLT files if I load Excel 2010 and then 2003 and don't install the file format compatability pack. However, Excel 2007 seems to cause problems. Installing Excel 2007, 2010 then 2003 leaves Excel 2003 as default for .XLS and .XLT files as I want. However, Excel 2007 is the default for the new format files. I have tried tinkering with the File Associations for the files without success.

Can anyone help? I suspect that I'll need to resort to registry hacks but you may know better.

Regards

QB

Hi Qb,

The part to manage that some extensions open with Excel 2003 and other with newer versions,
I'm not sure how to reach it. But certainly, by experience, and like a rule, the installation order is critical.
You must install older versions first in order to avoid or minimize possible errors.

You must know that only is possible to have one version of Outlook, because the new version will replace
the older one. I think this This behaviour does not apply for Access, but I'm not sure.

For the registry thing and other questions, read this and proceed carefully

Read up to the end and you'll get this paragraph:

"In order to open a file in the intended version of an Office application,....)

Hope this helps,
