Excel is not calculating

Hi,

I am using Excel 2003 and the file size is 178MB.
The calculate option in manual.

When I make a change and press F9 the calculate always does not seem to work.

If I repaste the same formula it then works. There is no circular reference.

Wonder why is this happenning and if there is a solution to this problem.

I'm taking it that you have to have it set to Manual versus Automatic.

I (along with numerous others) have the same problem at times with it set to Automatic.

The only solution that has been offered is to do a Find of the equal sign and Replace of the equal sign, for the whole book.

I have yet to see an explanation as to why this happen.
