Excel Not Responding for simple tasks

I have a pretty powerful Asus laptop running Excel 2013 and I'm working on a large file, 66 MB, with lots of formulas. I have calculation set to manual but when I attempt many simple tasks, like inserting a row, moving a row, adding a sheet etc, Excel stops responding. Sometimes if I wait a few minutes it accomplishes the task, other times it doesn't and I have to use Task Manager to End Task. I have been careful to not apply formatting to entire columns or rows, I use $ to restrict my formulas to the range they are being used but since I have calculation set to manual anyway, I'm don't see how formulas would be causing this anyway. Any thoughts?

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.
Hi,

It could be the AutoSave feature. Look in File-->Options-->Save for the checkbox. Mine is set to autosave every 10 minutes so I would expect it to go slow at that time.

Remember, if you turn it off, it will not autosave. I know that sounds obvious but it will mean that if Excel crashes you won't have a an autosaved copy to go back to.

Also look at Disabling ALL addins and see if that helps.
If it does, enable them one at a time to see which was the issue.

Also, look at using safe mode to see if that fixes the issue

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run > Excel /safe and hit on Enter.
Note: There is space between Excel and (/) slash.
