Recently, I noticed that when I select a column by clicking on the column header (the letter at the top) the column no longer shows up as shaded. I get a green line immediately under the column header, but the column doesn't appear as shaded. I can select a range and that will be shaded, just not an entire column. Any function/formatting that I do still works on the column, but it's just much harder to identify what is selected. The worksheet is not protected and the cells are not locked.

I'm an experienced excel user, but I've never encountered anything like this. Any help would be appreciated.
