If using 2 or 3 programs, plus working with 3 or 4 open excel workbooks - each with say 3-4mb of data, with many functions and VBA and macros etc. what sort of specs are required for optimal performance without putting pressure on the PC?

Will an Intel Core i5 2.8Ghz 4G Ram do the job well?

Will 8G ram make a difference?
Will i7 make a difference.

Thanks

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
The suggested spec is fine. More RAM won't make a difference (unless using a 64bit version of Excel, and you don't want to do that). i7 won't make any appreciable difference - you already have major overkill for Excel.

What version of Excel are you using? To get the best of your machine you probably need xl2007 or later.

Have 03. But I'm buying a new PC - so will probably pick up an excel 2010.

Thanks for the info. I thought all that churning might need something extra.
