I have a problem with Excel.
When I open a new workbook the 'Pivot table and Pivot Chart report', and 'Import external data' options are greyed out.
I know that MS Query is definately installed because if I open an existing workbook containing a query I can alter the query in MS Query and refresh the data.
The office package was originally supplied pre-loaded on my company lap-top, but I have since uninstalled Office (and MS Query) and re-installed it using our Companies Office XP disc but to no avail. I have also checked that when I open a new workbook it isn't protected. Internet searches have not shed any light and our IT guys are stumped. Can anyone help or suggest what might be the cause?

Excel Facts

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
Is it possible the workbook(s) are shared?

Tools|Share Workbook and in the Editing tab, the "Allow changes by more than one user...." option should be unchecked.

No I have checked that it isn't shared. This problem occurs everytime I create new workbook however if I go into an existing workbook which already has a query I am able to both edit the existing query and import new data.
