Excel Spreadsheet slow to respond

Sorry I am new to this

I have a Microsoft excel spread sheet (Office 2013) which I use as a production schedule which is very slow and when I switch from different sheets within the workbook it hangs and stops responding
the memory used increases rapidly changing from sheet to sheet
It worked fine in 2003 & 2007 and up to April in 2010 and then I got problems
I changed soon after in May to 2013 but first experienced the problem when I had 2010

Please help

Do you have a bunch of =SUMIFS or other lookup functions in the workbook?
