Excel XY chart scaling algorithm

Does anyone know the algorithm that Excel uses to set up its default scales for XY charts?

I believe it is documented at msdn.microsoft.com. I don't have a link to the actual document. You will have to search the site -- or, search the google.com archives of the XL newsgroups.
