I am using the following formula: =COUNTA(A3:A1000)

The above formula needs to be modified such that when any cell or cells under column A is/are blank, disregard that/those cells from the TOTAL and the FINAL TOTAL should always be 1 less that the final TOTAL (i.e. if the final total is 660, I want it as 659).

Thanks.

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.
That's what COUNTA does, counts cells that are NOT Blank (therefore ignores BLANK Cells).

And to make the total always 1 less, just subtract 1.
=COUNTA(A3:A1000)-1

Are the cells truly blank because counta should automatically ignore blank cells?

Thanks, Jonmon1 for the explanation and the suggested formula works perfect.
