Excel2000: XLStart-There's gotta be a way....

I'm having trouble getting Excel2K to startup the way I want it to.

1. I put a "personal.xls" hidden workbook in the XLStart folder, with a few macros.
2. This caused Excel to start without opening a blank workbook.
3. To solve this problem, I put a blank workbook "Book1.xls" in the XLStart folder.
4. However, when I open an existing workbook by double-clicking its icon on the desktop, Excel also opens the blank workbook.

Is there any way to avoid the situation described in #4 above?

Thanks for the help.

Drew

Excel Facts

When they said...
When they said you are going to "Excel at life", they meant you "will be doing Excel your whole life".
Did you manually created the workbook ? Excel creates it when you tell him to store the macro in the "Personal.xls workbook". I think it's not a hidden workbook, but a workbook that has its IsAddin property set to True. That probably is what's causing Excel not to open a blank workbook.

Ok, my assupmtion was wrong. It is a hidden workbook. BUT, I created it by recording a macro, and then, restarted Excel, and I got an empty workbook, so, that's problably the thing that you didn't do.
