Export Word into Excel

I just started using Office 2010. I have a lot of old templates i.e. I take an old report to make a new one. I am losing the text underline when I import from excel into word. It looks fine on the screen but when I got to print, the underlines are gone. I've been fudging by using the border function but this is not a good substitute. I am not working in compatibility mode.
