External links in Excel 2016

I am migrating from Office 2010 to Office 2016. Previously, when opening spreadsheets with External Links in Excel 2010, the linked cells would retain their stored values until I would select “Update Links”. With Excel 2016, even though I select “Don’t Update” when prompted regarding External Links, the links are still being calculated. Apparently, when using Excel 2016…Excel forces a complete recalculation of all open workbooks that were previously saved in an earlier version of Excel, regardless of the link update status.

Is there a way that I can get Excel 2016 to behave as Excel 2010 does (i.e. links hold stored values unless update is requested)?

I feel like there should be a combination of Trust Center Settings (i.e. Protected View, un-trust file locations, etc) that would do the trick.

Thanks!

Excel Facts

What do {} around a formula in the formula bar mean?
{Formula} means the formula was entered using Ctrl+Shift+Enter signifying an old-style array formula.
Hope it will work for you

Go to Trust center >>> External Content >>> Under security setting Disable automatic update!
