Help please!

I have been asked to create a spreadsheet that tracks the hours worked on different building jobs. Each building job is assigned a unique identifying number, which is in column A on both workbooks.

What I now want to be able to do is make it so that, if the number in column A on my new workbook matches the number on column A on the existing work tracker then import the total number of hours worked on that particular job (recorded in column BT on the existing work tracker) into a new column (F) on my new workbook.

Anybody got any idea at all about how to do this?

You can use VLOOKUP referencing an external workbook. It's easiest to have both workbooks open and build the formula by pointing.

Thanks Andrew, sorry to be totally thick- do you know the formula I would need? I've only used VLOOKUP a handful of times and have no idea about 'pointing'.

What's the name of the workbook and the worksheet you want to lookup? By pointing I mean with your mouse.
