Hi everybody,

Per the title, I need to be able to extract the numeric values in a range of text cells.

For example:
Cells L4 (never changing) - L450 (dynamic range) may have the text "Reimbursement: $30"

There may be text to the left of the word Reimbursement and the dollar amount can be 1 to 3 digits. I need to show the total reimbursement of money within the range of cells in column L.

I realize the simplest solution would be to have the monetary totals in a separate column, but I'm not able to do that with this sheet.

Thank you to anyone who can assist!

Hi Peter,

Thank you for the information. I have been trying to get this to work for some time on my own, prior to asking for help. Literally, hours after getting Eric's solution, which took care of my problem, my boss gave me permission to add an additional column FINALLY, which now eliminates the need for any formulas. ??

With that said, I greatly appreciate all of the help, but it has now become a moot point. Maybe someone else down the road will be looking for the solutions you guys came up with, and it will help them.

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
