Extracting the First Alpha Character from a String

Greetings,

I have a series of 3 or 4 character codes that I need to extract the first alpha character from. I've been trying variations of LEFT combined with IF without success. The first alpha character in my codes can be in either position 2 or position 3 and is always preceded by numerals. I can extract position 2 or position 3, but can't find the right logic to look at them both and pick the just first alpha character. I need a formula and not VBA because this needs to function in a Workbook on a SharePoint site.

Some examples of the codes: 13IY, 35AZ, 9FW, 22GZ. In each case I want the first alpha character from the left.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

How about

=MID(A2,2+ISNUMBER(MID(A2,2,1)+0),1)
