I'm a contractor and have put together a simple spreadsheet that, based on nominal window sizes, will produce a 'cut list' for me for all the trim involved. For each set of nominal sizes entered in cols B (width) and C (height), cols D thru H fill in the appropriate surround and casing lengths.

Is there a way to get XL to cumpute in feet and inches?

Excel Facts

Enter current date or time
Ctrl+: enters current time. Ctrl+; enters current date. Use Ctrl+: Ctrl+; Enter for current date & time.
What kind of numbers do you give B and C, and what are your formulas for D thru H? Can you post, using Colo's downloadable utility at the bottom of the page, a screen shot of your sheet?

Is there a thread somewhere on how to use colos cool utility? I have downloaded it and if you look at my signature (quotable quote) below my posts youmay get the drift - I am not that versed in alot of this.

whether it makes a difference or not regarding using colos utility, I am on a Mac and OS 10.2.6

CAVEAT -- I know nothing re Macs; might need the Light version of the Colo utility, just don't know. post back...

Code:
3. How to Install this Add-in
----------------------------------
Save the Addin to your Addin Directory. Typical Dir locations are:

	C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Library
	C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\AddIns

If you do not know where your Addin Dir is then; Do a search for *.xla you should be able to get
your Addins path from the results.

Now in Excel on the Main Toolbar select	Tools > Addins....This Addin should be Listed there.
If it is not then your will need to either manually browse & load in OR Close & Reopen Excel.

Now, you should see a choice of Html up near Window and Help on the XL toolbas. Highlight a range of cells, clicknon the Html and follow the prompts.

I have managed to get the HtmlMaker2.42.xla into the addins folder (directory) but when I select a range of cells and select HTML from the tool bar I get a series of 6 or 7 windows pop up that throw me for a loop as to what on earth to do from there.

In other words the 'prompts' are not clear to me where to go from that point.

Convert to inches, do all the calculations, and convert back to feet and inches?

Also, while it can be useful, you don't have to have the HTMLMaker utility. Just copy+paste from XL to the browser.

To share formulas, select the formula in the formula bar and copy, press ESC to stop editing the formula, switch to the web browser and paste.

To share multiple formulas, switch to formula viewing (Tools | Options... | View tab | Windows Options section | check the Formulas checkbox. Then copy+paste the cells of interest.
