Hi,

I've a friend which has been using an excel file as a database to keep track of its company's after sales services data. He has been using this file for about 1 year without any trouble. 2 days ago, without changing the computer, the windows and even the office version the file does not open giving the "File format is not valid" error. Now he is desperate as he unfortunately did make any backups!

He sent the file to me, and i can no open too. The office version is 2003. The file size has reached 1.07mb, which i think is too small, but thought maybe it's worth mentioning.

Any suggestions?

Which Excel functions can ignore hidden rows?
The SUBTOTAL and AGGREGATE functions ignore hidden rows. AGGREGATE can also exclude error cells and more.
Hi

Check if the file extension has been inadvertently changed. From what I read this issue arises when the extension changes. For your workbook the extension should be .xls.
