How can I bypass "This file is not in a recognizable format." message when trying to open up files?

I know the files being open are not excel documents, I'm just wanting certain data from them.

Can you sort left to right?
To sort left-to-right, use the Sort dialog box. Click Options. Choose "Sort left to right"
Hi,
I guess it depends on what kind of files they are - it may or may not be possible to open the with Excel.

They are custom files created with VB.
I'm just wanting to pull certain data from the file. I have a script set up to do that, but the only thing that messes up the script is the File is not in a recognizable format message.

If I can get that dialog bypassed or automatically press the OK to open button, that would be great!

Okay, so what kind of files does this VB script create, and how are you trying to open them? The reason I ask is that if you try to open a file with Excel that Excel can't read, it will fail ... so it really comes down to knowing what kind of file you are dealing with, so you can use an appropriate means to access it.
