Fill down column with links to another spreadsheet

I often use the Fill Down feature for formulas, and it’s handy how Excel automatically advances the referenced cells (i.e. =A10-C10 becomes =A11-C11).

Is there a way to do the same thing (even with copy & paste) for links to another spreadsheet? So that I can have one cell reading:

='[Atlanta Golf.xls]ExpenseNew'!$A$9

and then copy or fill so the next one would automatically change to be:

='[Atlanta Golf.xls]ExpenseNew'!$A$10

Basically I'm trying to save myself some time so I don't have to go back to the original spreadsheet and link the cells over and over.

Excel Facts

Create a chart in one keystroke
Select the data and press Alt+F1 to insert a default chart. You can change the default chart to any chart type
The fill down feature does exactly what you are saying it should do, but it will not work for the examples you are showing:

='[Atlanta Golf.xls]ExpenseNew'!$A$9

if copied down it will become:

='[Atlanta Golf.xls]ExpenseNew'!$A$9

because you have assigned the row and column values as an absolute reference by using the '$' symbol when you do a fill down, $A$9 stays the same. If instead you use:

='[Atlanta Golf.xls]ExpenseNew'!A9

if copied down it will become:

='[Atlanta Golf.xls]ExpenseNew'!A10

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but hope it helps.

Take care.
