Filling a 3rd row, by comparing 2 other rows

I have 2 rows with numbers. First row is longer than the second, (several identical numbers)

To the right of the second number row i have a descrition (text) of that number. The numbers in the 2 rows need to get the same description

I need to compare the 2 number rows, and fill in the coresponding text from number row 2 to a new row next to number row 1.


numbers ------ (text need to be inserted) ------ numbers2-----(text that need to be inserted)

Ups, sorry, im using excell 2000 here, and i seem to get an error
Is the formula suppose to be the same in my version (excel 2000)?

The posted example should work ok with Excel 2000, Can you post an example of your s/sheet layout?

The layout is exactly like your example :/

However, my excel is in Norwegian. So i have to use another word than vlookup and false. (finn.rad / finn.kolonne and usann)

But the logic is suppose to be the same ...

I understand that some Excel versions use semicolon ; rather than comma ,

might be worth a try

Make any sence ?

'row index' suggests that you are using HLOOKUP not VLOOKUP

Sorry, collum index that is.

using =VLOOKUP(A2;D:E;2;FALSE) now gets accepted :D (swaping ; for , worked)

But the output of the formula is #I/T
