Filtering Cells

I have a pretty complicated excel matter. It has been racking my brains for weeks. I am looking to filter data in a "merged" cell. I know that is not possible. I am trying to treat the merged area as whole and unmoving. So, I have a couple columns and rows of data that are variables than finally average in the row below. I also have a few constants that are the same across the entire "merged" area. I want to filter this data and treat the entire "merged" data set as a whole and filter it based off the constants.
I am not sure if this is clear, but any advice will help!h

Merging cells cause many problems in Excel. I never use them. In most cases you can get the same effect by selecting the cells and format them using "Center Across Selection". Thus avoiding all the merged cell pitfalls.

Steps to Center Across Selection:
Un-Merge your cells.
Select the cells you want to Center.
Ctrl-1 will open the Format Cells Dialog box
Click the Alignment Tab
Under Text Alignment, choose "Center Across Selection" in the Horzontal: Field.
OK to complete.
