find end of row in xl97

Yogi, thanks. That gives me what I need. (It'll just take me a week to figure out what it does exactly)

You said "the column" not "the cell". Since by your lay-out, the row is known. Now wonder that the formula I posted returns just the column identifier.

Aladin, yours works for the january page but it needs to be generic so it can work for all the months.

You were talking (I believe) about a cover sheet where you wanted the formula. The one I posted prefixes the range 3:3 with the sheet name. And this action doesn't make it specific (that is, non-generic). If worried about that, you just remove the "jan!" bit.

Excel Facts

Which Excel functions can ignore hidden rows?
The SUBTOTAL and AGGREGATE functions ignore hidden rows. AGGREGATE can also exclude error cells and more.
ok i've used the formula you guys gave me:
=SUBSTITUTE(ADDRESS(1,COLUMN(INDEX($4:$4,$4:$4,MATCH($AN13,$4:$4))),4),"1","")

it works great. now i need to adapt it to look in a column of dates on sheetQ and return the column address in the corresponding row on sheetM
the information in the sheetQ column and the sheetM row is the same.

it's not quite working for me on different sheets. i used this formula only using references on sheetM and it works fine. here's my test on sheetM.
i must be just referencing sheetQ incorrectly.
