find text and sum numbers issue

Hi, please help, i'm new with excel :/ I use excel 2010
1. I have sumif for columns in A5:C5 with hour unit at end. How to sum these numbers in 5th row?
2. Is there a way to sum all cells which contains same letters in A1:C4 (example-column E,F)?

You could use this array-entered** formula to do it...

=SUM(1*LEFT(A5:C5,LEN(A5:C5)-1))

**Commit this formula using CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER and not just Enter by itself.
