Finding a certain month in a range of dates

Hi everyone,

I'm having a bit of an issue with figuring out a formula.

I have a rental report where the users are able to input a start date, and an end date in separate cells. I'm trying to summarise this report by months and I want to see how many units are on rental in a month to month break down also separated by the model (there's only a few models, around 5).

I'm thinking the best way to go about it is have Excel check for a month in this range of dates, and if it is, it would sum a column of total units on rent.

I'm currently using a SUMIFS statement for the range of sums, one of the criteria is the name of the model on rent which I'm matching to a String, and the final criteria would be the month as explained above.

How would I write this out?

Thanks

Links? Where??
If Excel says you have links but you can't find them, go to Formulas, Name Manager. Look for old links to dead workbooks & delete.

Depending on how your data is laid out, you could do a pivot table with a grouping for month.
