Hello all,

I work in accounting and I am constantly looking for new excel formulas to expediate my my processes. Right now I am looking for a formula that will search a column of numbers to find the right combination of those numbers that add up to a total that I specify.

I need this because we get payments with no reference of what people are paying for, so we have to look through their outstanding invoices and try to find out which ones they are paying off, trying to add them up in different combinations to equal the amount of their payment. If more information is needed please let me know, but I hope I got across what I am looking for, and I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Excel Facts

Pivot Table Drill Down
Double-click any number in a pivot table to create a new report showing all detail rows that make up that number
This doesn't appear to work with negative values in the column that is being searched, any ideas for this?

Update: I tried again and got it to work with negative values, nevermind
