What does it mean when you have a line of code in VBA like;

a = #1 - variable

What does the # mean??

Thanks in advance.

Use Data, What-If Analysis, Goal Seek to find the correct input cell value to reach a desired result
#1 is used often for setting a pointer to an open file or other source.
Any number instead of 1 can be used (#2, #99)
For example, the code for opening a file and retreaving a line is:

Code:
OPEN ("TEST.TXT") FOR INPUT AS #1
mystring = INPUT #1
CLOSE #1

Another application for the # is to define constants or for conditional compilation (see #IF and #CONST)

I know about no other uses of this symbol in VBA, but there could be others.

Sorry I got the hash the wrong way round...

It's;

a = 1# - variable

Thanks for your reply harvey.

I have no idea what it does, it looks like vba ignores it completely. It could be some kind of casting though (like cast as a long or double)
