Hi All,
Im an excel user but there comes a time when excel wont cut it ie writting a report!

My questions is, In excel you can just got to footer and click the button and it automatically adds in the path/filename. I need to know how to place the path/filename in the footer using Word 07?

thanks
Sam

Excel Facts

Can you AutoAverage in Excel?
There is a drop-down next to the AutoSum symbol. Open the drop-down to choose AVERAGE, COUNT, MAX, or MIN
Click "Insert" and find "Footer" on the ribbon. And just pick the first option (blank text) unless you want fancy design.

Now you are in "edit-footer-mode".

On the ribbon, Insert-"Text" click "Quick Parts" and pick "Field".
Look in the list "Field names" and pick "FileName" and check "add path to fieldname".
Should do it.

Thnx. NP.

It was a good question, as I recently got Office 2007 installed (ironically by accident) I decided that this might be a good opportunity to learn how to do it. Because eventually I'll need it myself. That new layout keeps tripping me up in all the office applications.

I dont use Word all that often so it is always a challenge for me. I use Excel alot and really feel that the ribbon is a great feature.

Once again thanks for the help!

An easy way that works with all versions of Word is to access the header/footer, then press Ctrl-F9 to create a pair of field braces (ie '{}'), then type FILENAME (or 'FILENAME \p' if you want to include the path) between the field braces, thus:
{FILENAME} or {FILENAME \p}
then press F9 to update the field.

Cheers
