But, I'm trying to create a proposal template. My goal is this: to have my pricing catalog in an excel spreadsheet. Then somehow link to it and creat dropdown boxes that I can just choose from. So, on the first line item, I can manually put in the quantity, but then in the cell for the model #, I would just have one to choose from. This will also work for the description and the list price per unit. If I can get some help on this.....awesome. Not sure if its possible or if it's really simple. You guys and gals would be a lifesaver!!!!! THANKS

Which Excel functions can ignore hidden rows?
The SUBTOTAL and AGGREGATE functions ignore hidden rows. AGGREGATE can also exclude error cells and more.
Looks like your solution lies either in creating a data validation list or a combobox --more than likely the former. If you can't figure out data validation, just ask.

1. Write your list somewhere in some column, one item in one cell, like D1. D2, D3 etc.

2. Go to your cell where you want to input your selections

3. Click Data -> Validation ( It's in the menu bar )

4. Select "list"

5. Select the range ( D1:d3), then OK

That's it.

thats pretty cool....tried it and it's EXACTLY what I was looking to accomplish. Heres the only problem.....my catalog pricing is on a different worksheet and it won't let me reference it. Any suggestions?

... Then, when you're done doing what Pekkavee just said, list the prices for each item in the column to the right. In the cell beside (or wherever) the drop down list, type

=VLOOKUP(*cell reference where drop list is located*,*range of both columns (entire array)*,2,FALSE)

So now, when you select an item from the list, the price of the item appears next to it.

To avoid the problem with other worksheet do as follows.

1. Go to your list in sheet 2 ( or so)
2. Add a name to a range ( like "Prices" ) ( Add -> Name Etc. )
3. then go to your sheet 1 where you want to have data validation
4. do as I told you, but in the box "resource" input "= Prices"

This should do it.

PS. Sorry if my Excel "words" are not corret ( like resource). I have a Finnish language Excel and I don't like it at all.

PS2 : I am affraid, Bubbis idea doesn't work in here.

To reference cells in other worksheets, type

*Sheet name*!*cell reference*

EG. Prices!A1

This idea. It's not working with Data-Validation in different worksheets.

Your other idea was excellent.
