Formating a chart based off a pivot table

I have a chart that is based of data from a pivot table. When I make changes to the formating of the chart (i.e. color of the line, width of the line) it is fine, but when I change one of the drop down fields within the pivot table, the pivot table format returns to a "default" setting. How can I make my "new" format remain when changing selections? Thanks for the help.
