Formatting formula answers in a cell

I have a worksheet which has two merged cells. The statement "Unit:" is formatted to the left. I want to place an answer from a formula (which is another cell) so that it would look like "Unit: 4-1" in my merged cells. How do I get the answer formatted to the right of the word "Unit:"? It seems that the answer always defaults to the destination cell formatting which deletes "Unit:".

Thanks,

Tom

Smitty,

I think I have the kinks worked out to my satisfaction. My worksheet is busy with all the answers needed using drop down boxes, but it does work. Thanks for the help.
