Formatting question

Is it possible that when i enter a figure like 3600 it can be formatted to 3.6, so every figure is divided by one thousand ??. I cant have a formula as I would be typing over it ...any ideas ?

Sure is: use a custom format like

#,##0.0,;[Red]-#,##0.0,

where the "," indicates that the number is displayed divided by 1,000 (use multiple instances to increase the divisor ie ",," would be to display in millions.

That is amazing but how the hell did you know that ????? where on earth do you find that info ????????????

or, if you want it effecting not just the format but the stored value:

tools| options | edit | fixed decimal - set to 3

review the excel help topic 'Number format codes', in particular the section 'Decimal places, spaces, colors, and conditions'.
