I would like to set up a workbook with sheets which reference a "master" sheet containing text. The intent is that when the contents of the "master" sheet change, the contents in all other sheets change too. I am using "=MasterSheet!A1" as the means to display the text however formatting characteristics of the mastersheet cell are not maintained. Is there any other function/formula which would maintain the formatting?

You can teach Excel a new custom list. Type the list in cells, File, Options, Advanced, Edit Custom Lists, Import, OK

What would cause the formatting to change on the 'MasterSheet'?
Have you considered Conditional Formatting; would that help?

Sorry, but I did not explan my requirements very well. If the master sheet's cell has bold formatting, I would like the cell containing the formula referencing the mastersheet to also be bold. If the mastersheet's cell formatting changes, I would like the change to be automatically reflected in the destination cell. I couldn't see anything in the conditional formatting dialogue which would inherit the characteristics of the "mastersheet's" cell but perhaps there are more advanced options. Thanks for your quicky reply!

You can't use formulas to format, they only return values.

The only other options are conditional formatting or VBA.

The former might be quite difficult especially if you are working across sheets.

For specific advice on the latter we would need more information.
