I have a spreadsheet and in cell A1 I entered formula
A1 =IF(B1="","",IF(B1="ch*","ch","pd"))
B1 ch-m982391

The answer comes up pd in cell A1. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Excel Facts

Add Bullets to Range
Select range. Press Ctrl+1. On Number tab, choose Custom. Type Alt+7 then space then @ sign (using 7 on numeric keypad)
I am guessing that are just trying to check the two leftmost characters to see if they are "ch". If so, try:

=IF(B1="","",IF(Left(B1,2)="ch","ch","pd"))

This formula worked.

=IF(B1="","",IF(Left(B1,2)="ch","ch","pd"))

Thank you for your help and quick response.
