Formula and Sort problem

I have two columns of fixed data and one is a formula

That is

A b C Result of formula
1 john 1 1
2 mary c1+1 2
1 phil C2+1 3
2 dave c3+1 4
3 mark c4+1 5

when I try to re-sort based on column A, the results of my formula get screwed up because the formulas now do nor reference properly

What I want is to have the result of the formula to be fixed data, even if it is another column so that if I sort of A the results will still be available

Bottom line: I want to take the result from a formula and make it fixed so I can sort based on other criteria.

I hope this is clear

Excel Facts

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
if you lock the cells by using the $ i.e. $c$1 - this should solve your problem

$c - locks it to C
$4 - locks it to 4....

u can use either one or both

Thanks for the reply but that does not quite do it. I want the result of the formula to travel with the sorted data. using the lock causes that column to stay static, missrepresenting the data.

For what is it worth and to close off this question i resolved it by doing a
copy and then paste special (vaules) to a new column and then sorting
on this new column. It works and I am happy
