Hi Guys,

I need a formula that will calculate how many periods there are up to 01/04

e.g

There are 5 total period between the dates 01.01.2006 and 01.03.2011
<TABLE style="WIDTH: 211pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=280 border=0><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 70pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 3401" width=93><COL style="WIDTH: 71pt; How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)
Up to 01/04 of which year?

Hi Andrew

it could be the 01/04 of any year based on the start date
e.g
01/01/09
01/05/10

has 2 periods

01/01/09 - 31/03/10
01/04/10 - 01/05/10

as 01/05/10 has not passed 01/04/11
the periods is 2 however if it passed or equaled
01/04/11 thwn that would be another period

It's not clear to me what data you have - I assume you have a start date and an end date.....and also a list of periods.

If start date is in A2 and end date in B2 and then periods are listed with start dates in D2:D10 and end dates in E2:E10

=SUMPRODUCT((D2:D10>=A2)*(E2:E10<=B2))

That counts periods that are wholly within the range

Sorry barry the second part is an example,

basically

the period is always 01/04

basically if a date is past 1st april then i have set charges
which fall in to the following years banding

so say i have these 2 dates

01/01/2006
01/05/2009

what i need is to have is add to have a formula
that would count how many peeiods there are that
are after 01/04
so
01/06/2006-31/03/2007 is 1 period
01/04/2007- 31/03/2008 is another period
01/04/2008-31/03/2009 is another period
01/04/2009-01/05/2009 is another period.
Its stops there as the end date is 01/05/09
so there is no nees to go into the following years charges

hope that make sense the period is up to 01/04

All i have is 2 dates abd the period is always upto 01/04
anything over 31/03 goes into the next years charges

OK, if your two dates are in A1 and A2 then try this formula for the number of periods

=YEAR(A2+275)-YEAR(A1+275)+1

Hi Barry,

i think the formula sometimes calculates out by 1 period

e.g

if i take these 2 dates

<TABLE style="WIDTH: 56pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=75><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 56pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 2742" width=75><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; WIDTH: 56pt; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl63 height=20 width=75 align=right>01/01/2006</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl63 height=20 align=right>14/10/2011</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

The periods should equate to 6

<TABLE style="WIDTH: 160pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=214><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 56pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 2742" span=2 width=75><COL style="WIDTH: 48pt" width=64><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; WIDTH: 56pt; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65 height=20 width=75 align=right>01/01/2006</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; WIDTH: 56pt; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65 width=75 align=right>31/03/2007</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; WIDTH: 48pt; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" width=64 align=right>1</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65 height=20 align=right>01/04/2007</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65 align=right>31/03/2008</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" align=right>2</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65 height=20 align=right>01/04/2008</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65 align=right>31/03/2009</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" align=right>3</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65 height=20 align=right>01/04/2009</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65 align=right>31/03/2010</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" align=right>4</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65 height=20 align=right>01/04/2010</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65 align=right>31/03/2011</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" align=right>5</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65 height=20 align=right>01/04/2011</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65 align=right>14/10/2011</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" align=right>6</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

But the formula you gave equates to 7

=YEAR(A2+275)-YEAR(A1+275)+1

I cant take the +1 at the end of because if my end date was say 31/03/2012 that gives a wrong count

I need to have anything up to 01/04/ so 31/03 being the last day of that period, the following period starts from 01/04 again to 31/03 the following year

If say my end date is 01/04/2011 then that would count as a period from 01/04/10 - 31/03/2012

Hth

P.s why 275? and + 1 at the end of the formula
