Hi there everyone.

Hoping someone out there might be able to help me with this.

Here is an example -

C5 =ATP!C15
C16 =ATP!C26
C27 =ATP!C37
C38 =ATP!C48

As you can see the formula goes up in 11.

Is there a simple way to fill in the cells under it without having to cut and paste the formula each time and changing the numbers.

I have hundreds of cells to do this with.

Thankyou in advance.

An Aussie Excel Novice.

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.

Is this any use?
=INDEX(ATP!C:C,ROW()+10)

Glad to help a fellow Aussie :biggrin:

Rather than me giving a long description of how that works, for a start it would be best if you have a look in the built-in Excel Help. In the Answer Wizard type 'INDEX function' and have alook at the 'array' syntax first.

Then try it out a bit on a single sheet (rather than referencing another sheet like in your example above). If you have further questions after that, post back.

You may also need to look up the ROW() function.

Thanks for the help links.

I think I have it sorted out now.

Only problem is that if

A1 =INDEX(ATP!C:C,ROW()+10)

which takes cell info from a worksheet titled ATP

and if I have a worksheet titled NFL that I want cell info from

A2 =INDEX(NFL!C:C,ROW()+10)

does not work.

hope you understand what Im trying to do.

I want to also do

A3 =INDEX(NRL!C:C,ROW()+10)

which also takes cell info from a worksheet titles NRL

but if I cant work out the A2 then A3 wont work either.

A1 does work though which I thankyou.

I think way of asking might help. It might be confusing the way im asking the question.

Why does this not work?

a16 =INDEX(ATP!C:C,ROW()+10) it gives the correct answer
a17 =INDEX(NFL!C:C,ROW()+10) gives wrong answer
a18 =INDEX(NRL!C:C,ROW()+10) gives wrong answer

The ROW()+10 part of the formula was because your original question was to return the value from a column that was 10 rows lower than where you had the formula. That may no longer be appropriate.

Which value (row) from NFL sheet column C do want returned to A17?
Which value (row) from NRL sheet column C do want returned to A18?

You might also want to have a look how to use Colo's HTML maker to show samples of you sheet on the board.

Peter,

Big thankyou, I worked it out.

But could not have done it withoutyour help.

C5 =INDEX(ATP!C:C,ROW()+10)
C6 =INDEX(NFL!C:C,ROW()+9)
C7 =INDEX(NRL!C:C,ROW()+8)

etc, etc, etc

Only thing though. is there a way I can do the formula so that no matter what worksheet is called that Im getting the cell info from, the formula works.

I use that sort of formula in C4
=IF(COUNTA(SHEETS)>=ROW($A2),INDEX(SHEETS, ROW($A2)), "")

Thankyou in advance.
