Formula help required

Hi,
Hopefully this is a simple one for someone. I have a filter on column A, i then want to total the number of lines that certain data is held on. The spreadsheet contains around 3000 lines of data how can i total the lines up?? Eg, if i filter column A for the word "house" i need to know how many lines that contains the word "house" totalled up.
What formula is required?

If I understand you correctly, you can use Subtotal for this:

=SUBTOTAL(9,YourRange)
