I have a list of names and thier student numbers it is a download
and in the cell both the name and number are listed in one cell eg Yurchuns, Oleams (20023677)
i want to create a column where only the student number is in.
what formula should i use?

Excel Facts

Using Function Arguments with nested formulas
If writing INDEX in Func. Arguments, type MATCH(. Use the mouse to click inside MATCH in the formula bar. Dialog switches to MATCH.
Hi,

If Yurchuns, Oleams (20023677) is in cell A1 you can paste this formula in B1 to get just the student number.

=MID(RIGHT(A1,10),2,8)

Look up text functions in excel help and there's lots of handy tricks.

Try:

=MID(A1,FIND("(",A1),LEN(A1))

this will include the brackets too.
