formula help

hi there i was wondering how i would go about this:

lets say i have a column on worsheet1 that has this

hat
hat
hat
cat
cat
mat
mat
mat
mat
dog
dog
dog

on worksheet 2 column a i would like to have the result returned just once for each group

hat
cat
mat
dog
 

Excel Facts

Create a chart in one keystroke
Select the data and press Alt+F1 to insert a default chart. You can change the default chart to any chart type
Data>>Filter>>Advanced Filter>>Check "Copy to another location", make appropriate selections for "List range" and "Copy to" and check "unique records only"

If your data is in column A, then this would work as a formula in column B. Let me know if you would prefer a vb solution.

=IF(OR(ISNUMBER(SEARCH(A2,A$1:A1))),"",A2)

This is an array formula, so you want to press ctrl-shift-enter after you type it in.

CM thanks but i need to have something more automated

e18 if my b column is on another sheet can i still do this???
