When I type in a simple formula,

example: = 1/3
the answer is .333333333 but when i look in the formula bar.. my formula of =1/3 is no longer there, it is just the hard coded result. how do i fix this? thanks

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.
One possibility is that you have VBA code that runs on any change in your spreadsheet, and that effectively does the same as a Copy, Edit, Paste Special, Values. So, check up on that, and post back.

No there is no VBA code. When I type is =3*3, the formula stays... seems to be only happening with division?

Is it happening on all spreadsheets? I can't seem to get your result, only the formula result, showing 0.333333 in the cell, and =1/3 in the formula bar.
