formula not working

The top formula fails to give correct data. The bottom one works fine. Anyone spot an error? Maybe a typo but I can't see it if it is.

=SUM(IF($B$2:INDEX(B:B,$U$2)=I3,IF($C$2:INDEX(C:C,$U$2)>$E$2:INDEX(E:E,$U$2),1)+SUM(IF($F$2:INDEX(F:F,$U$2)=I3,IF($E$2:INDEX(E:E,$U$2)>$C$2:INDEX(C:C,$U$2),1)))))

=SUM(IF($B$2:$B$10=I3,IF($C$2:$C$10 > $E$2:$E$10,1)))+SUM(IF($F$2:$F$10=I3,IF($E$2:$E$10 > $C$2:$C$10,1)))

$U$2= 10

You have closing brackets in different places within the formula.

=SUM(IF($B$2:INDEX(B:B,$U$2)=I3,IF($C$2:INDEX(C:C,$U$2)>$E$2:INDEX(E:E,$U$2),1)))+SUM(IF($F$2:INDEX(F:F,$U$2)=I3,IF($E$2:INDEX(E:E,$U$2)>$C$2:INDEX(C:C,$U$2),1)))
