I tried using the absolute function for a formula but it is not working the way I wanted it to work.

I have a formula in a cell. When I drag the formula Across not down, I want the column reference to remain constant and the row reference to change. But unfortunately it is not working. I am using this reference style $P10. I want the P column to remain constant and the row to change. But this is only working when I drag the cell with the formula DOWN using the fill handle. It is not working, When I drag it ACROSS using the fill handle. Why is that?

Difference between two dates
Secret function! Use =DATEDIF(A2,B2,"Y")&" years"&=DATEDIF(A2,B2,"YM")&" months"&=DATEDIF(A2,B2,"MD")&" days"
it's not working 'cos you've anchored the column reference, so it wont change, & although you've left the row relative, the row isn't changing when you drag across so that wont change either.

Care to post your formula (tell us where the formula goes) & a description of what you're trying to do etc...
