formula to count in hours/mins

needing a formula to sum up hours but not roll over into counting days ~ if total is 38:18 (38 hours, 18 minutes) i need it to say that, NOT 1:14:18 or 1 day, 14 hours, 18 min.

Use the SUM worksheet function and format the cell containing it using the custom format...

You apply a custom number format... See the Excel Help topic for "Create a custom number format".

I'm on lunch here so I'll go through this. Highlight the cell(s), go to Format/Cells/click the numbers tab. Click Custom and in the Type window, enter [h]:mm, click OK

1. Select the cells you want to format.

2. On the Format menu, click Cells, and then click the Number tab.

3. In the Category list, click a category, and then click a built-in format that resembles the one you want.

4. In the Category list, click Custom.

5. In the Type box, edit the number format codes to create the format you want.

need to change the dates in several cells at one time (about 20 cells) with the above formula. all other info stays static except the date; needs to be changed to Dec 9-13, 2002.xls.
