Thanks Greg for the prompt reply. Yes, I tried other columns rather than A. I thought it might be a format problem. That wasn't it either. So still am not sure. I only recently had 2007 installed so am unaware of the conditional formatting. If you can direct me, much appreciated.
On the home tab, in the styles group, you have the button for conditional formatting. Click that and you'll get a dropdown menu, the first menu option is Highlight Cells Rules, pick that and your last option on the flyout is Duplicate Values...
