Formula to find and add totals

i need help finding the right formula to find a specific text in colum A (Groceries) and then coresponding that to different value in the same row in a different column (D)>

A B C D E
catagory place depost withdarw total
Groceries wal-mart -150.00 1500.00
enter movies -18.00 1482.00
Groceries albertsons -100.00 1382.00

So i need a formula to find "Groceries" and corespond withdrawl amount in same row colum D. and place it off to the side or different workbook.

How about something like this:
=if(a2="Groceries",d2,0)

or to add the column:
=SUMIF(A:A,"Groceries",D:D)
