23.jan.09 13.feb.10 BBB

What i mean is that how to get the value under group by using the date.

I.e check which range of date that 13.jun.09 fall in at spreadsheet 'data'
<b/w 01.feb.09 & 22.jan.10>, group column will reflect AAA in spreadsheet group

for 03.nov.10 < b/w 23.jan.09 & 13.feb.10 >

I.e formula to check which range of date that 13.jun.09 fall in range from spreadsheet 'data'
for 13.jun.09 ( Date is b/w 01.feb.09 and 22.jan.10 ) , spreadsheet group value of B2 = AAA

for 03.nov.10 ( Date is b/w 23.jan.09 and 13.feb.11 ), spreadsheet group B3 = BBB

Both Data and Group are in different spreadsheet

********************************************
'Group' spreadsheet
A B
1 DATE GROUP
2 13.jun.09
3 03.nov.10

*********************************************
'Data' spreadsheet
A B C
1 START END GROUPNAME
2 01.feb.09 22.jan.10 AAA
3 23.jan.10 13.feb.11 BBB

I couldnt post in table forms so, the abc/123 represent the excel tables

Yeah, you don't really need column B (End Date) in your lookup table either. It seems superfluous. Unless you're using that column for something else......?
